Why drying follows extraction
Extraction removes liquid water, while drying addresses moisture retained in porous materials and enclosed spaces. Air movement, dehumidification and moisture monitoring may be used depending on the affected area.
Materials behave differently
Drywall, wood, insulation, carpet, padding and engineered flooring absorb and release moisture at different rates. Some materials can be dried in place in certain situations, while others may need removal when they are damaged, contaminated or cannot be dried effectively.
How long does it take?
There is no reliable one-size-fits-all drying time. The answer depends on the amount of water, how long it was present, indoor conditions, material types and how much of the assembly was affected.
