Keep people and pets away
Avoid walking through or handling sewage-affected materials unless properly protected. Do not use household fans to spread air from a contaminated area into clean areas of the property.
Cleanup may involve removal
Porous materials that have absorbed contaminated water can be difficult to safely clean. The appropriate response depends on the materials involved, the extent of contact and applicable cleanup practices.
Find and address the source
Cleanup is only part of the problem. A blocked drain, sewer line issue, failed fixture or other source must also be corrected so the backup does not continue.
