When emergency water removal makes sense
A burst supply line, failed water heater, overflowing fixture, appliance hose failure or other sudden release can put a large amount of water into a property in a short time. Professional extraction may be appropriate when water is beyond a small, easily contained spill or has reached carpet, pad, drywall, cabinets or other porous materials.
Do these things first
If it is safe, stop the water source. Avoid standing water near electrical outlets, appliances or a service panel. Move people and pets away from contaminated water. Take photos for your records when doing so does not delay an urgent safety response.
Removal is only the first stage
Visible water can be extracted while moisture remains in subflooring, wall cavities and other assemblies. Drying and moisture checks are what help determine whether materials are actually returning toward a dry condition.
